The Pony Press is an All Breed/All Discipline equine newspaper. From humble beginnings in October 2003 the paper has grown steadily in size and in distribution. The July/August 2005 was 50% larger than the first issue and we have increased the number of copies 3 times and 63% since the first issue. The number of advertisers has steadily grown as well.
The Pony Press covers local equine events, supports local equine organizations, and local equine businesses.
The Pony Press also covers issues that are of interest to all horsemen/women. In 2004 our managing editor, Cheryl Childs, won an investigative journalism award for her article about the practice of soring Tennessee Walking Horses. Cheryl recently interviewed an avid horseman from Ireland (Ronan Tynan) who was once a member of the famed Irish Tenors and has sung at Carnegie Hall and sang the National Anthem at the Belmont. As Cheryl likes to point out "the magic word is horse" and it is what ties horsemen & women from all parts of the world together.
We have recently added several new features to The Pony Press. We now have News from Oxbow - the adventures of a Miniature Horse Breeder in South Africa; Equestrian Adventurer - an equine travel column; Bob Goddard - a comic look at life from the perspective of a non-horse man living with horse crazy women; and Grazin Bits cartoon.
We have had requests for copies from Connecticut, Florida, Washington, and New Mexico. We now have subscribers in Minnesota, Arizona, Arkansas, Kansas, and Oklahoma as well as in Missouri.
We have had so many positive comments about The Pony Press. Our newspaper seems to appeal to all genders and all ages of horse enthusiasts. Our readers seem to anxiously await the publication of the latest issue. Often, when we take the newest issue into a feed store or tack store, we are told that "someone was asking if the new Pony Press was here yet."
We hope to continue to grow in size, distribution and advertisers.
